Souher Fakhoury Gonzales is a proud Palestinian and Jordanian, and the founder of Watermelon Sisters, a humanitarian organization dedicated to providing direct aid, nourishment, and emotional healing to the people of Gaza. With more than twenty years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Souher has devoted her life to supporting communities in crisis, building programs that center dignity, mental wellness, and long-term resilience.

Souher developed a three-part mental health program in Gaza, offering virtual therapy, art therapy for women and girls, and targeted trauma-focused interventions that help young women process grief, loss, and uncertainty while reclaiming hope. She has also worked extensively with Syrian refugees, strengthening her expertise in trauma-informed care and displacement response.

Under her leadership, Watermelon Sisters delivers life-sustaining support including food distributions, children’s nutrition assistance, maternity resources, and psychological care. Souher has built a trusted network on the ground in Gaza, enabling aid to reach families quickly, safely, and with cultural understanding at the forefront.

Her work continues to uplift those living through unimaginable hardship—nourishing bodies, strengthening hearts, and reminding communities that they have not been forgotten.
